Baseline

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001127

The portion of a chromatogram recorded when only the mobile phase is passing through the detector, showing the detector's response in the absence of any analyte. This signal represents the background noise and any steady drift of the instrument. Accurate peak integration and quantification require the correct identification and subtraction of this baseline from the total signal.
