Nitro compounds

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007962

Organic compounds containing one or more nitro groups (-NO2) covalently bonded to a carbon atom. These compounds are characterized by the strong electron-withdrawing nature of the nitro group, which influences their chemical and physical properties. Many nitro compounds are used as explosives, propellants, or intermediates in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and dyes.
