Photochemical funnel
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008819
A region on a potential energy surface where two or more electronic states become degenerate or nearly degenerate, facilitating rapid non-radiative decay. This intersection allows for efficient conversion of electronic excitation energy into vibrational energy, leading to radiationless deactivation. Such funnels are often associated with conical intersections between excited and ground electronic states.
