Ion funnel

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006082

A device used in mass spectrometry to efficiently guide and focus ions from a high-pressure region to a lower-pressure region. It consists of a series of ring electrodes with decreasing inner diameters, to which radiofrequency (RF) and DC voltages are applied. This creates an electric field that pushes ions towards the central axis and into the mass analyzer.
