Extraction field
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004291
An electric field applied in mass spectrometry to accelerate ions from the ion source into the mass analyzer. This field is responsible for drawing ions out of the region where they are formed, giving them kinetic energy for subsequent separation and detection. The strength and configuration of the extraction field significantly influence ion transmission efficiency and mass spectral resolution.
