Orthogonal extraction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008339

A method used in mass spectrometry to extract ions from a continuous ion beam into a pulsed ion beam, typically for time-of-flight mass analyzers. Ions are accelerated perpendicularly to their initial direction of motion by a pulsed electric field. This technique provides high mass resolution and sensitivity.
