Beam chopper
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001162
A device used to periodically interrupt or modulate a continuous beam of radiation or particles, creating a pulsed beam. This modulation allows for phase-sensitive detection, which can significantly reduce noise and improve the signal-to-noise ratio in analytical measurements. It is frequently employed in spectroscopic and surface analysis instruments.
