Beam bunching
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001161
A narrowing of the time spread over which the ions of a pulse arrive, achieved by slowing the leading ions or speeding up the trailing ones so that they reach a target or detector together. Compressing the pulse in this way shortens the time distribution of the ions. The different fields acting on different ions can blur the focus of the beam.
