Ion optics
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006089
The system of electrostatic or magnetic fields designed to control the trajectories of ions in a vacuum. These fields are used to focus, steer, accelerate, or decelerate ion beams, similar to how optical lenses manipulate light. Ion optics are fundamental components in mass spectrometers and other ion beam instruments.
