Transport region

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012264

A part of a mass spectrometer, located between two other functional regions, through which ions are transmitted. This section contains ion optics, such as lenses and deflectors, that guide the ion beam from one component to another, for instance, from the ion source to the mass analyzer. The pressure in the transport region is maintained at a low level to minimize ion-molecule collisions.
