Transport number
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013667
The portion of the total electrical current in an electrolyte solution that is carried by a specific type of ion. It is a dimensionless quantity representing the contribution of a given ionic species (cation or anion) to the overall charge transport when a potential difference is applied. The sum of the transport numbers for all ionic species present in the electrolyte is equal to one.
