Current density
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002794
A vector quantity representing the amount of electric charge flowing through a unit cross-sectional area per unit time. In electrochemistry, it describes the rate of an electrode reaction per unit area of the electrode surface. The magnitude of the current density is expressed in SI units of amperes per square meter (A/m²), although amperes per square centimeter (A/cm²) is also a common unit in electrochemical studies.
