Average current density

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001020

The total electric current passing through an electrode divided by the macroscopic geometric area of that electrode. This value provides a measure of the overall rate of an electrochemical reaction per unit of apparent electrode area, without accounting for microscopic surface roughness or non-uniform current distribution. Average current density is expressed in units of amperes per square meter (A/m²) or related units like milliamperes per square centimeter (mA/cm²).
