Ion beam
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006070
A directed flow of charged atoms or molecules moving in a specific direction, typically within a vacuum. The beam is characterized by its kinetic energy, which is measured in electronvolts (eV), and its current, measured in amperes (A). Ion beams are employed in surface analysis techniques like secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) for sputtering and in ion implantation for modifying material properties.
