Delayed extraction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013023
A method in time-of-flight mass spectrometry where ions are allowed to drift for a short period in a weak electric field before being accelerated by a strong electric field into the flight tube. This delay in acceleration compensates for the initial kinetic energy spread of the ions, improving mass resolution. It is also known as time-lag focusing.
