Transmission

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013666

The fraction of the ions that enter a region of a mass spectrometer, such as an ion guide, a mass analyzer or the whole instrument, that come out of it again. Written as a number between 0 and 1 or as a percentage, it has no units. Quadrupole mass filters operated at high resolution transmit only a small fraction of the ions entering them, so transmission falls as resolution is raised.
