Spectrometer transmission function

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011162

The fraction of particles, such as electrons or ions, that a spectrometer analyser lets through compared with those presented to it, taken per unit solid angle and per slice of energy, mass or wavelength and reported as a curve against that variable. It depends on the accepted solid angle and on particle energy. Measured intensities in electron and mass spectrometry are divided by it to correct for instrument bias, and for light the analogous quantity is the fraction of radiation passed at each wavelength.
