Mass selective instability
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006992
A phenomenon in ion traps where ions of a particular mass-to-charge ratio become unstable and are ejected from the trapping field. This instability is induced by adjusting the applied radiofrequency and DC voltages, causing the ions' trajectories to become unbounded. It is the operational principle behind mass analysis in quadrupole ion traps.
