Mathieu stability diagram
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007026
A graphical representation that illustrates the regions of stable ion trajectories within the parameter space of a quadrupole mass filter or ion trap. This diagram plots the stability parameters 'a' and 'q', which are functions of the applied radiofrequency and DC voltages, and the ion's mass-to-charge ratio. Ions whose 'a' and 'q' values fall within the stable region are trapped or transmitted.
