Radiofrequency coil

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009883

A device in a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer that generates an oscillating magnetic field and detects the resulting signal from the sample. The coil produces a magnetic field perpendicular to the main static magnetic field, which excites the nuclei. The same coil or a separate receiver coil then detects the faint radiofrequency signals emitted as the nuclei relax back to their equilibrium state.
