Imidoyl nitrenes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005605
Highly reactive nitrenes in which a nitrogen atom with a sextet of electrons is attached to the carbon of an imidoyl group, RC(=NR')-N. They arise from imidoyl azides, which exist in equilibrium with tetrazoles, by loss of nitrogen gas. They are electrophilic and rearrange rapidly, for example to carbodiimides by migration of the R group.
