Carbodiimides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001628

A class of organic compounds containing the functional group RN=C=NR', where R and R' are organic substituents. They function as powerful dehydrating agents and are widely employed in synthesis to facilitate condensation reactions, such as the formation of peptide bonds from amino acids or ester bonds from carboxylic acids and alcohols. Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) is a common example used in peptide synthesis.
