Carbocyclic compounds

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001627

Organic molecules that contain one or more closed rings of atoms, where all the atoms forming the ring structure are carbon. These compounds are distinguished from heterocyclic compounds, which have at least one non-carbon atom in their ring system. Carbocyclic compounds are further classified as alicyclic (like cyclohexane) or aromatic (like benzene) based on their bonding and electronic structure.
