Cyclitols

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013008

Cyclic polyols, which are carbocyclic compounds containing at least three hydroxyl groups attached to different ring carbon atoms. These compounds are formally derived from cycloalkanes by replacing hydrogen atoms with hydroxyl groups. Myo-inositol is a common example, found in many biological systems as a component of phospholipids and signaling molecules.
