Inositols
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013194
Cyclic polyols with six carbon atoms, each bearing a hydroxyl group. These compounds are cyclohexanehexols, and they exist as nine possible stereoisomers due to the arrangement of the hydroxyl groups around the ring. Myo-inositol is the most abundant and biologically active isomer, playing roles in cell signaling and as a component of phospholipids.
