In-out isomerism

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005891

A type of stereoisomerism observed in certain polycyclic compounds, particularly those with bridged ring systems. It describes the spatial arrangement of a substituent or a lone pair of electrons relative to the interior or exterior of the molecular cage. This isomerism is determined by whether the group points towards the center of the ring system (in) or away from it (out).
