Pileup
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008971
The phenomenon in spectroscopy where multiple incoming signals arrive at the detector within a very short time, causing them to be registered as a single, larger event. This leads to a distortion of the measured spectrum, particularly at high count rates. It can result in an apparent shift of peaks or the creation of spurious peaks.
