Pulse pile-up
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009673
An artifact in radiation detection systems where two or more closely spaced electrical pulses from individual radiation events overlap in time, causing them to be registered as a single, larger pulse. This phenomenon distorts the measured energy spectrum by shifting counts to higher energy channels and can lead to inaccurate quantitative analysis. It becomes more pronounced at high counting rates.
