Γ-ray spectrometer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005019

An instrument designed to measure the energy distribution of gamma radiation emitted from a source. It consists of a detector, such as a scintillation crystal or a high-purity germanium semiconductor, and associated electronics to process the detector signals into an energy spectrum. The resulting spectrum displays peaks at specific energies, which correspond to the decay of particular radionuclides present in the sample.
