X-ray emission spectrum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012755
The distribution of X-ray photon intensities as a function of energy or wavelength, emitted by a substance when its inner-shell electrons are excited and subsequently relax. It consists of characteristic lines corresponding to specific electronic transitions and a continuous bremsstrahlung background. The characteristic lines are unique to each element and are used for elemental analysis.
