Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013070
A non-destructive analytical technique that identifies and quantifies elemental composition by measuring the energy and intensity of characteristic X-rays emitted from a sample. The sample is irradiated with X-rays, causing inner-shell electrons to be ejected and subsequently replaced by outer-shell electrons, releasing characteristic X-ray photons. This method is used for elemental analysis of solids, liquids, and powders, detecting elements from sodium to uranium.
