Muon induced X-ray emission analysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007697
An analytical technique that uses muons, elementary particles similar to electrons but much heavier, to induce characteristic X-ray emission from a sample. When a muon is captured by an atom, it cascades down to lower energy levels, emitting X-rays unique to the element. This method is non-destructive and can provide elemental composition information, particularly for light elements.
