Normal X-ray level
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008076
An energy level of an atom from which an electron can be ejected by X-ray absorption, leading to the emission of characteristic X-rays or Auger electrons. These levels correspond to the principal quantum shells (K, L, M, etc.) of the atom. The energy of an X-ray photon emitted during a transition between two normal X-ray levels is characteristic of the element.
