Alkene photoisomerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000395
A photochemical process in which an alkene undergoes a change in its molecular structure, specifically the arrangement of its atoms, upon absorption of light. This transformation often involves rotation around the carbon-carbon double bond, leading to cis-trans isomerization. The reaction proceeds through an excited electronic state and can lead to a photostationary state.
