One-bond-flip
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008233
A mechanism of E/Z photoisomerization in which a single C=C double bond of a conjugated system twists through about 180 degrees in the excited state before relaxing to the ground state as the other geometric isomer. It is the ordinary E/Z photoisomerization, in contrast to the bicycle-pedal and hula-twist mechanisms, in which two bonds or neighbouring units move together.
