Free rotation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004657
The unhindered rotation of one part of a molecule relative to another around a single bond. This occurs when the energy barrier to rotation is very low, allowing rapid interconversion between different conformations. Ethane exhibits free rotation around its carbon-carbon single bond at room temperature.
