Rotational barrier

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010419

The energy difference between the highest and lowest energy conformations that arise from rotation around a single bond. This barrier represents the activation energy required for one conformer to interconvert into another. The magnitude of the rotational barrier determines the rate of interconversion between rotamers and is influenced by steric and electronic interactions.
