Atropisomers
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000924
Stereoisomers produced by hindered rotation about a single bond, where the energy barrier is large enough for each rotational form to be isolated as a separate compound. The forms do not interconvert at room temperature, so each is configurationally stable. The classic examples are biphenyls carrying bulky substituents at the ortho positions.
