Atrophy

A reduction in the size of a cell, tissue, organ, or part of the body, resulting from a decrease in cell size or number. This can occur due to disuse, aging, disease, or inadequate nutrition. Muscle atrophy, for example, is a common consequence of prolonged immobilization.
