Atrium
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000922
A chamber of the heart that receives blood from the body or lungs and pumps it into a ventricle. Humans and other mammals possess two atria, the right atrium receiving deoxygenated blood from the body and the left atrium receiving oxygenated blood from the lungs. The walls of the atria are thinner than those of the ventricles, reflecting their lower pressure pumping function.
