Pulmonary artery

A large blood vessel that carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs. It is unique among arteries in carrying deoxygenated blood. In the lungs, this blood releases carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen before returning to the heart via the pulmonary veins.
