Ventricular septal defect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012543
A congenital heart condition characterized by an opening in the septum, the wall separating the heart's lower chambers (ventricles). This defect allows oxygenated blood from the left ventricle to mix with deoxygenated blood in the right ventricle, leading to increased blood flow to the lungs. The size and location of the defect determine the severity of symptoms and required medical intervention.
