Atrial-septal defect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000919
A congenital heart defect characterized by a hole in the septum, the wall separating the two upper chambers (atria) of the heart. This opening allows oxygenated blood to flow from the left atrium to the right atrium, leading to increased blood flow to the lungs. The size of the defect determines the severity of symptoms and the need for intervention.
