Axial chirality
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001036
A type of chirality where the molecular asymmetry arises from the arrangement of substituents around an axis, rather than around a central chiral atom. This occurs when rotation around a bond is restricted, leading to non-superimposable mirror images. Examples include allenes, spirans, and certain biaryl compounds like atropisomers.
