s-cis, s-trans

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010585

Conformational isomers that arise from rotation around a single bond connecting two sp2-hybridized atoms, where the single bond has partial double bond character. The 's' denotes single bond, distinguishing these from cis-trans isomerism around a double bond. In an s-cis conformation, two reference groups on adjacent atoms are on the same side of the single bond, while in s-trans they are on opposite sides.
