Alkene photodimerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012853
A photochemical reaction where two alkene molecules combine to form a cyclobutane dimer upon absorption of light. This process involves the excitation of one or both alkene molecules to an electronically excited state, followed by bond formation. The reaction can proceed through concerted or stepwise mechanisms, yielding different stereoisomers.
