Enforced concerted mechanism
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003935
A concerted reaction mechanism that proceeds through a single transition state because any potential stepwise pathway involving an intermediate is energetically inaccessible. The reaction is forced to be concerted as the intermediate that would be formed in a stepwise process is of such high energy that it cannot be formed under the reaction conditions. This contrasts with a non-enforced concerted reaction, where a stepwise path is possible but energetically less favorable.
