Single-electron transfer mechanism

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010896

A reaction pathway in which one of the elementary steps involves the transfer of a single electron from an electron donor species to an electron acceptor species. This process generates radical ion intermediates, which then proceed to form the final products through subsequent reaction steps. The initial electron transfer can be initiated thermally, photochemically, or by using a chemical redox agent, and is distinct from mechanisms involving the concerted movement of electron pairs.
