Concerted reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002377

A reaction in which reactants are converted directly into products in a single step, through one transition state and without any intermediate. Bonds may be made and broken to unequal extents at the transition state, so concerted does not mean synchronous. The Diels-Alder reaction is a well-known example, and its two new bonds form to different degrees when the diene or dienophile is unsymmetrical.
