Direct insertion probe

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013041

A device used in mass spectrometry to introduce solid or liquid samples directly into the ion source region of the mass spectrometer. The sample is typically placed in a small crucible or on a filament at the end of a rod, which is then inserted through a vacuum lock. Heating the probe volatilizes the sample for ionization and analysis.
